Aquatics Programs

 

YMCA’s have been teaching people to swim for more than a century. YMCA aquatic programs teach children to be safe around the water and instill a sense of accomplishment that comes with learning something new.


Swimming Lessons

Swim lessons start new at the beginning of each month. You MUST sign up before the class starts. Class sizes are limited. When registering, PLEASE choose a class that your child can attend ALL classes. 15 Minutes of play time is included with swim lessons. There will be NO classes or make-up classes for holidays that the YMCA is closed.

Parent/Child/SKIP Lessons (Ages 6 - 36 Months)

This program emphasizes water adjustment, parenting skills and water safety. The goal of this program includes the child's enjoyment and adjustment in and around the water while instructing the parents how to assist in the development of their child's future swimming skills. Children will learn water safety and aquatic readiness through play, songs and games. (Student/Instructor Ratio 1:10)

Preschool Lessons (Ages 3 - 5 yrs.) PERS

Children work under the direct supervision of qualified instructors to learn basic swimming techniques and safety in and around the water. Children will move at their own pace. PERS (Pike, Eel, Ray, Starfish). (Student/Instructor Ratio 1:6)

Beginners: Pike and Eel
Advanced:Ray and Starfish

Youth Lessons (Ages 6+)

Progressive swimming is the YMCA's successful program for teaching school aged children to swim. The more advanced each child becomes in this program, the more strokes he/she will learn. Remember, each child progresses at a different pace. (Student/Instructor Ratio 1:6)

Beginners: Polliwog/Guppy
Advanced:Minnow, Fish, Flying Fish, Shark, Porpoise

Adult Lessons

Afraid of the water? Let us teach you how to swim. Classes consist of instruction in basic swimming, stroke technique, and personal safety skills. Class is set up to move at the participants pace.

Private Lessons

Cost: $25 Member / $35 Non-member per 1/2 hour.
TIMES: When available for instructor.


Swim Lesson Registration
Swim lessons start new at the beginning of each month. You MUST sign up before the class starts. Class sizes are limited. When registering, PLEASE choose a class that your child can attend ALL classes. Sign ups for the next month are on the 16th for memberss and the 24th for non-members.

  • Class sizes are limited to a FIRST COME FIRST SERVE basis
  • No changing of times is permitted once the session begins
  • No refunds will be given for a program unless it is cancelled by the YMCA
  • Street shoes are NOT permitted on pool deck
  • No food or drink on deck
  • Showers are mandatory before entering the pool

Swimming Lesson Observation Policy - Having as few distractions as possible during lessons is important. Please observe classes only from pool viewing area. Chairs are provided along the wall.

Aquatic Fitness

Aqua Aerobics
A fun filled total body workout incorporating various water exercise equipment designed to strengthen and tone all muscles. 

Schedule: Mon/Wed/Fri: 8:00 - 9:00 am



Aqua Yoga This class unites the age-old wisdom of yoga with the warmth and support of water. Standing yoga postures are performed in the zero-depth/therapy pool to relax, stretch and strengthen joints and muscles. Guided relaxation is also performed in the whirlpool area. Schedule : Monday and Friday: 9:15 am - 10 am



Lifeguard Certification

The YMCA Lifeguard Certification program provides a comprehensive education centered on preventing accidents in the aquatic environment.  The focus of the program is on practical aspects of Lifeguard knowledge and patron safety.  Lifeguard training enables the participant to learn and apply safety principles in their own life, develop leadership skills, learn how to maintain a healthy lifestyle, and improve decision making skills.

Prerequisites:  Participant must be 16 years of age prior to the class start date, have current First Aid and CPR for the healthcare provider or professional rescuer, and be able to complete a 500 yard swim test.

Other Aquatics Programs and Classes

Scuba Diving - Classes will be held during the spring. Stop at the front desk for further information. Minimum of 6 per class.

High School Swim Teams - Practices and meets are TBA. Please check with the front desk form more details.



Aquatics Policies

Adult Lap Swim - There are 2 lap lanes designated for adult lap swim at all times. Members must be 16 years of age or older and be able to swim the length of the pool front crawl with rotary breathing. Those under the age of 16 must see the aquatic director for approval in lap lane. Check Schedule Here



Deep Water Test - Required for anyone under age 18. Must swim one length (25 yards) front crawl without stopping, touching the wall, or touching the bottom of the pool. Tread water for 10 seconds. Test must be taken when guard asks. Available during open swim times. Olympic Pool Schedule



Family Swim/Open Swim - Adult members and families. Children under the age of 8 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Check Schedule Here



Flotation Devices - The YMCA does not provide flotation devices. YMCA flotation devices are used for instructional purposes only. Children with flotation devices (noodles, swimmies, etc.) MUST be accompanied by an adult in the pool and are NOT permitted in teh deep area.



Hot Tub - No one under age 6 is permitted.
Ages 6-16 must be accompaied by a parent.
