Fitness Assessment

Whether you need to evaluate your current fitness level for personal motivation or you want to know if your are training properly, our fitness assessment can answer your questions. UPper and lower muscular strength and endurance are measured as well as balance, body composition and cardio endurance. Free for members first testing.



Wellness and Cardio-Strength Center Orientations

The YMCA offers complimentary orientations to the equipment in the Wellness Center at the Calcutta facility and Cardio-Strength Center at the Downtown facility. YMCA fitness staff will introduce you to a wide variety of equipment while helping you establish a safe and effective workout.

Age: 16 - Adult
Fee: Free for Members; $25 Non-member

One on One Personal Training

Personal training is for anyone interested in learning how to make the most out of their workouts. Whether the need is to lose weight, tone up, train for a specific event or occasion, or change your current exercise routine, personal training will benefit you! Our affordable rates make personal training accessible for everyone!

Partner Personal Training

Partner training is perfect for those who want a buddy to take along when they work out. Both members must be present for the hour long session.

Sports Specific Training

Excel in your sport by learning all the right techniques. Methods used to train for a specific sport include: Balance training, foot speed, agility, medicine ball core work, muscular strength and endurance as well as hand-eye coordination.

YMCA Personal Fitness

This program is ideal for those who have never regularly exercised or have not been active for quite a while. The 12-week program will ease you into a personal fitness program with a coach to guide you.  Your personal program may include a combination or selection of group classes, cardiovascular equipment and or strength training equipment. After 12 weeks you’ll have the confidence and motivation to continue making fitness a regular, healthy habit.

TechnoGym and Cybex Orientations

Shotokan Karate (Calcutta YMCA)

Offered by Ohio Valley Martial Arts. Children learn discipline, self-confidence and defending themselves in a justifiable manner.

Age: 6 +
Schedule: M-W Beginners: 6:30 - 7:15pm. Advanced: M-W 7:30 - 8:15pm.

Teen Strength Certification

The Teen Strength Certification program is designed to introduce teenagers to basic strength training principles and techniques.  This program will emphasize the importance of strength training as part of a healthy lifestyle, focus on exercise safety and injury prevention, and promote a positive self-image. Upon successful completion of this program, participants will be certified to use the Wellness / Cardio-Strength Centers with supervision during designated times.

SilverSneakers Classes

This group exercise class designed for older adults includes a warm-up and rhythmic range of movement stretch, work with resistance tools, cool down, final stretch and relaxation segment. It is an equipment based, multi-level, total body conditioning class in which students use hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, a SilverSneakers playball and a chair for standing and/or seated support.

High Intensity Classes

Absolutely Fit - Intense abs workout with a bit of legs and butt.

Aqua Aerobics - A high-intensity, low-impact cardiovascular workout performed in shallow water.

Boot Camp - A high intensity class combining sports drills with basic fundamentals of a group PE class.  This class combines calisthenics, kickboxing, weights, step, and aerobics. It will make you sweat!

Butts & Gutts - A high intensity boot camp style workout that will tone and tighten your body.

Jump Stretch - Jump Stretch classes are designed to improve flexibility while increasing strength without damaging or overloading the joints. Jump Stretch is a great alternative workout for athletes trying to increase speed and vertical jump during the off season. Ages 12 and up.

Kettlebells - Iron cannon balls with handles make for a demanding workout to tone and strengthen the whole body while challenging the cardiovascular system.

Lunch Express - A half hour class that may be all abs, all weights, all aerobic. You never know what you'll get, but you know you'll get a good workout.

Maximal Toning - A combination of jump stretch, free weights, abdominal exercises and cardio.

ZUMBA - Dance your way to a fitter you with exciting and unique Latin moves and rhythms. You can burn up to 800 calories with this high energy class. Taught by certified Zumba instructor. Watch Video here.



Moderate Intensity Classes

Aqua Jog - A low-impact cardiovascular workout performed in deep water. Water weights may also be used.

Body Fit - A low-to-moderate intensity combination of the most effective exercises to improve flexibility, increase strength, and burn calories.

Cardio Dance - A low to moderate intensity class consisting of Hip-Hop, Jazz, Salsa, and fun!

Fit Kids - Ages 9-12 will learn how to make physical activity fun as well as challenging. Sports traing methods and strength training includes foot speed drills, core strength, running, agility, pushups, balance training, and hand-eye coordination.

Kettlebells - Russian strength training program that will not only tone your body but will challenge your cardiovascular system as well.

Interval Floor - A fast paced, low impact aerobic class, interspersed with resistance training. Core work and stretching complete the class.

Proportionally-Fit - A fun, low- to moderate-intensity class consisting of cardiovascular and muscle toning exercises to help create a harmonious body.

Step & Sculpt - A fun, low to moderate-intensity class consisting of cardiovascular and muscle toning exercises to help create a harmonious body.

Tighten Up - A beginner step class that combines strength and toning exercises with traditional low-impact step aerobics.

Teen Strength - Ages 12-15 are taught how to properly use the equipment in the Wellness Center. Teens must attend 4 classes and complete a simple test at the conclusion.




Low Intensity Classes

Aqua Yoga - This class unites the age-old wisdom of yoga with the warmth and support of water. Standing yoga postures are performed in the zero-depth/therapy pool to relax, stretch and strengthen joints and muscles. Guided relaxation is also performed in the whirlpool area.

Beginner Line-Dancing - Introductory line-dancing class designed to give you a low-intensity cardiovascular workout while learning basic dance steps.

Family Walking - During this time families may use the walking track togther in the Wellness Center. Youth/Teens age 15 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Please note: strollers are not permitted on the walking track.

Muscular Strength and Range of Movement - This class includes a rhythmic range of movement stretch, work with resistance tools, cool down and a final stretch and relaxation. A multi-level, total body conditioning class designed for older adults or those with limited ability.

SilverSneakers - This class includes a rhythmic range of movement stretch, work with resistance tools, cool down and a final stretch and relaxation. A multi-level, total body conditioning class designed for older adults or those with limited ability. ALL YMCA members are welcome in the SilverSneakers classes.

Strength Mix - A low-intensity mix of various strength and cardiovascular exercises.

Tighten Up - A beginner step class that combines strength and toning exercises with traditional low-impact step aerobics.

Totally Tone - A fun, low-impact cardiovascular conditioning class that incorporates abdominal toning and flexibility exercises.

Y-Cycling - A fun, moderate to high intensity group cycling class set to music, spinning is a great cross-training program that will challenge you mentally and physically. We recommend bringing a small towl and bottle of water.


Yoga - A workout for mind and body.  This class focuses on improved flexibility, body shape, posture and breathing techniques while reducing stress and energizing the body!

Yoga/Pilates - A fusion of Pilates and yoga, for balanced core strength and a complete mind, body, and breath experience, ending with a relaxation exercise for stress release.

Yoga Stretch - YogaStretch will move your whole body through a complete series of seated and standing yoga poses. A chair support is offered to safely perform a variety of postures designed to increase flexibility, balance and range of movement. Restorative breathing exercises and final relaxation will promote stress reduction and mental clarity.
