What would the Y be without water? Water exercise, youth swim lessons, adult swim lessons (it’s NEVER too late) and adapted exercise for those with disabilities or in rehabilitation are some of the water-based activities you’ll find at the Y where we believe if you can do it on land, you can do some version of it in the water!
Swimming is a life skill as well as great exercise and a challenging sport. The Calcutta YMCA offers swim lessons for children ages 6 months, all the way to intermediate adult swimmers, as well as many kinds of adaptive swim programs for kids with special needs, so we can all safely enjoy the pleasures of an aquatic environment.
Make a splash with your workouts! The Calcutta YMCA offers various group fitness classes that will take your exercise routine from land to water. Aqua classes are great for individuals with joint pain and limited mobility because the water helps relieve the pressure and stress on joints that comes from land activities. The water also adds resistance to your movements, which assists in muscle toning and strength building.
Wave Runners Swim Team
The Calcutta YMCA's competitive youth swim team, the Wave Runners, take to the pool each winter and face off against other youth swim teams from around the tri-state area. Swimmers ages 7 to 18 can register for to become a Wave Runner in the fall.
